The November Pittsville Area Historical Society meeting was called to order by Vice President Chris Nepper. The Secretary and Treasurer reports were presented and approved.
Old Business began with a discusion of the business sign on the east side of the museum. We want to update it next year. Will it be better to have the sign made or purchase a machine and the materials to do it ourselves? Jan Patrick and Mary Czaja will research the choices over the winter and report back at the March 12 meeting.
The 2026 Calendar is at the printers and will be ready to sell soon. The front cover features the Community Hall since it was the activity hub of the 1940’s & 50’s. You might remember attending school activities, wedding dances or the Hunter’s Ball there. The months will feature businesses of the era. Grocery stores, gas stations, the Race Track, the Creamery explosion, taverns, schools and churches wil be depicted. Some residents will remember and others will be able to see their history through pictures and anecdotes. They sell for $10.00 and will be sold at Chrsitmas in the Center and from members of the Historical Society.
The Vietnam Experiences book is selling well at the library and Paulie’s Diner. Jan Patrick and Chris Buchanan sold some at the Veterans program. We remember and honor our Vietnam War veterans and their families. Each Vet’s experience was unique and is an interesting read.
We will sell our calendar, mugs and the Vietnam book at the Christmas in the Center celebration at the Community Hall from 10-3 on December 6. All will make interesting Christmas gifts for the people in your life.
New Business began with a discussion about how to best thank Liz Knutson for mowing the lawn during the season. It was decided to purchase a gift certificate from Cenex to help with some of the gas expenses. We thank Liz and Abigail Huber for all the help during the summer.
The Annual Meeting will be held on April 9 at 1:00 and the next general meeting will be March 12; also at 1;00.
