The August 2025 meeting of the Pittsville Area Historical Society was called to order by President Randy Fochs. The Secretary and Treasurer reports were presented and approved.

The first item of old business was a report about the Pie and Ice Cream Social that was held during the Antonette concert on July 26. It had to be moved to the Community Hall because of bad weather. The attendees enjoyed the treat on a very hot and stormy night. Members provided their special pies and Creanberry Creamery provided the ice cream. It was a fun and profitable night.

Peg Rademan gave the Building and Grounds update. New gravel has been added to the driveway and picnic areas. It was decided to wait to repaint the fence until next spring. The inside of Scranton School will be painted in early September.

Book 10 in the Stories of Our Lives series has been sent to the printers. The book will tell the experiences of some of the areas Vietnam Vets. The books are available at Paulie’s Cafe and the museum. The library has also agreed to sell the books. Books 1-9 will sell for $10.00 and Book 10 will be $20.00.

Work is progressing on the 2026 Calendar. The Community Hall will grace the front cover because it was such an important part of life in the 1940’s and 50’s. Early businesses will be depicted each month with entries for the dates to include interesting facts from the early days. The calendars will be ready in time and would make a great Christmas gift.

New Business included the purchase of a new dehumidifier for the museum. It is important to keep the humidity down to protect the precious artifacts that we house.

The museum will be open on Thursdays from 9-3 until the end of September. The last Sunday opening will be August 24 from 11-3. Stop in to see the updated displays and explore your hometown history. To take a virtual tour, log on to pittsvilleareahistoricalsociety.org.
