The June 12 meeting of the Pittsville Area Historical Society was called to order by President Randy Fochs. The Secretary and Treasurer reports were presented and approved.
Old Business began with a report by Chris Nepper on Scranton School Days. Pittsville and Grove School third grade classes attended this year. Marlene Neve, Chris Nepper and Rick Winters were the teachers. The students experienced what it was like to go to a one room school in the 1940’s.
Peg Rademan gave the Building and Grounds update. New edging was added to the east side of the museum. Hay Creek Pallet donated the mulch that was needed for the perennial beds. The mulch accents the plantings and there is much less weeding. The High School donated extra annuals that were added to the various containers on the grounds and were used to add color to the perennial beds. The grounds look wonderful thanks to the generous support of both organizations.
Jan Patrick reported on the progress that she is making on the Vietnam stories book. 19 stories are completed and others are in various stages of completion. She is asking that anyone who has information pertaining to the Vietnam conflict contact her or the museum before the end of June. The book will contain the veteran’s stories and photos to accompany them.
Chris Nepper is continuing work in the downstairs area of the museum. He is installing new lighting to make it easier to work and enhance the exhibits.
There was discussion about fundraisers to help with the costs for the various projects in developments. The Brat Fry at the Cenex Station was a success. We will create a calendar featuring historic homes in town and 1940’s and 50’s events that will be for sale before the end of the year; possibly for Christmas giving. We are also going to sell pie and ice cream on July 23 when the Antonettes will be performing at the Green Space.
A Docent schedule was filled out for the Sundays that we will be open in the summer. We will be open from 11:00-3:00 on June 22, July 13 & 27, Aug. 10 & 24
New Business included a decision to support PACT by purchasing an ad in the brochure for the summer play. New locks were purchased so all of the buildings can be opened with one key.
